Seven new oil exploration licenses for Faroe Petroleum
The Faroese oil company, Faroe Petroleum, recently announced that it has been successful in acquiring seven of the exploration licenses that it applied for in 2011. Faroe Petroleum's share of the licenses range from 20 to 75 percent. In three of the licenses, Faroe Petroleum is the company with the largest share, making it the operator for these exploration ventures.

A complete symphony orchestra in a small country
The Faroe Islands have a rich tradition for music and singing. This may help explain how the Faroe Islands have managed to put together its very own symphony orchestra. Normally it takes a nation of several million people to have a good basis for a symphony orchestra, whereas the Faroe Islands only have a population of approximately 50,000 people.

Faroe Islands approved as a flag state in shipping
The Faroe Islands have also been included in the white list of flag states meeting the criteria for low risk ships. It is the Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control (Paris MoU) which administers and publishes this list. Achieving inclusion on the white list is very important for the future of the shipping industry in the Faroe Islands. Before the recent changes, the Faroe Islands were on the grey list.

Comprehensive census of the Faroe Islands
1977 was the last time that a census took place in the Faroe Islands. There has thus been a long-standing need for a more up-to-date census covering the whole population. This is why the authorities established a census which would legally oblige each Faroese person to participate.

The biggest building project in Faroese history
It is the successful Danish architectural company, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), that has designed the education centre. The centre will be located in the outskirts of Tórshavn and will provide great views of the capital.
